Description
This plein air watercolor was painted in Arizona's Sonoran Desert where I had spent the entire day painting saguaro cactus in the late Summer's heat. Toward sunset, facing East and seeing a huge thunderhead building which was illuminated by the setting sun, I did this 18x24 quick watercolor sketch of the scene to capture the colors and fleeting light of those brief moments before darkness. Later, I did many paintings in watercolor and in oils based upon this piece.
